Multi activity Adriatic islands adventure
8 days/7 nights Huck Finn Adventure Travel program 2010
This itinerary is designed for those who wish to mix exploring coastal nature with culture, history and art. Dubrovnik, one of world’s most beautiful old towns, offers centuries of beautiful culture, while the Elafiti shorelines offer great natural variety: cliffs, caves, pine and palm trees, hidden coves, reefs and sandy beaches. Daily kayak outings are rather short (two to three hours of easy paddling) and not demanding. This trip is perfect for active people 14 years old and above. No previous kayaking experience is necessary.

Lopud, Kolocep and Sipan belong to Elafiti Islands Archipelago, 13 islands near Dubrovnik. They are not just places of incredible natural beauties but also open air museums of history, art, architecture and folklore. Each island has no more than a couple of hundred permanent residents who live in traditional stone houses. Tall palm trees, parks, gardens and flowers in the towns contribute to easy going life style. We will spend a day exploring each island and Dubrovnik. There will also be a day for an optional excursion to Herzegovina rivers for rafting or canoeing or to Mljet Island National Park.

Our base is Lopud Island, one hour from Dubrovnik harbor by ferry, in a small town of the same name. It is quaint, with three hotels, several restaurants and cafés, two sandy beaches, no cars and great sunsets. We will stay in simple rooms in traditional stone houses. 3 and 4-star hotel options are available on request, with a surcharge depending on type of hotel/room and season.

ITINERARY

Day 1 - Sat:We transfer from Dubrovnik Airport or Dubrovnik town to Lopud island. Our rooms are very near the sea and each has an own bathrom with shower or bath tube. There will be time to enjoy a swim in the sea and take a walk on Lopuds promenade. At the evening we meet together and talk about the next days.

Day 2 - Sun:After some kayaking instruction in the bay, we will be ready for our first paddling. We will kayak about 1 ½ hours to the other side of the island , to a large sandy beach called Sunj Bay. A diving mask, snorkel and fins will be provided for you to explore the rich and colorful underwater world of the Adriatic.
We will leave our kayaks here for the night and climb up to a hill where we will visit the church of Lady of Sunj from the 15th century before we take a brake on a small family run farm and taste some homemade vine, ham and cheese. We walk back to the village passing historic churches and untouched nature along the way.

Day 3 - Mon:After a good breakfast, we will walk back to our kayaks. Today we will paddle to the island of Kolocep, just across the beach Sunj. Paddling about 2 hours, swimming  and snorkel around Kolocep Island, the most interesting for sea kayaking and hiking. You will surely be impressed by the dramatic scenery with hidden dark caves, high cliffs and colorful reefs. Walk through Gornje Celo and Donje Celo, well preserved romantic Mediterranean villages, and along high cliffs.  Lunch will be organised in the bay Gornje Celo in a family run restaurant just by the sea. In the late afternoon we will go back to Lopud from the place Donje Celo, with the local ship coming from Dubrovnik, a drive of about 20 minutes.

Day 4 - Tue:Today we will paddling to the coast till  the place Trsteno, about 1 ½ hour paddling. This place was already inhabited in the 5th century. We will walk up to and through a beautifull renesaince middle ages garden of the Gucetic-Gozze family, today known as the most beautiful botanical garden of the region. After a nice walk and some rest, we will paddle about ½ hour to a nice beach in the village Brsecine, where we will have a picnic lunch. After swimming and some more snorkeling, we will paddle about 40 minutes back to Lopud for dinner.

Day 5 - Wed:After 3 activ days, today You can relax in the bay, sleep as long as You want or have an extra daily tour with us. We are offering interessting full day excursions to Montenegro or Bosnia and Hercegovina by bus with possibility to have some more activities like canoeing, sailing or nordic walking trips.

Days 6 – Thu: It is time to visit the old town of Dubrovnik, the most beautiful of all Mediterranean towns, for sightseeing, shopping in ancient streets, walking along city walls… Gelato or coffee taste the best in open air bistros along Stradun, the old town’s main street and promenade.

Day 7 - Fri: We leave in the morning, after breakfast, with our kayaks to the island of Sipan and the colorful villages of Sudjuradj and Luka Sipanska. The kayaking takes about 40 minutes. The fields between these villages have preserved the traditional country life style with chapels, monasteries, palaces and summer houses of ancient Dubrovnik aristocracy. This island is unbelievably rich in cultural heritage, tales from the past and well preserved monuments that have witnessed its turbulent history. We will explore them by walking and bicycling, with some time to enjoy the two island bays. Lunch is offered on a tipical dalmatian farm with homemade ham and cheese.

Day 8 - Sat:Transfer to Dubrovnik for flight home or onward.
