The rivers and lakes of Triglav National Park will delight every outdoor
fan. They are clean and clear and canoeists call them 'the dream rivers'
with good reason. Different in every season, they are a challenge
for every paddling enthusiast from novice to expert. You have the
opportunity to enjoy kayaking, canoeing or rafting, all in one week.
In the evenings the joyful atmosphere in the local pubs or relaxing
by the campfire will keep you awake until late.
About the rivers: In July and August Soca is not too cold for swimming.
In other periods, as well as other rivers in the area, it gets colder.
Soca is known as one of the most beautiful rivers in Europe. It
is clear, has unique green color and sections of different difficulty
- from easy to extreme. During the normal summer water level for
the lower section (Kobarid to Tolmin) open canoes or touring kayaks
are preferred; middle section (Bovec to Tmovo) with rapids up to
WW IV, we use rafts or kayaks and inflatable canoes for experienced
whitewater paddlers. The upper part can be navigated in inflatable
canoes with few portages. The section of Koritnica, usually used
for paddling, is rather short, but very beautiful. It can be done
in kayaks or inflatable canoes. Both these rivers are "slalom"
types, inconvenient for rafting in their upper, narrow sections.
Itinerary: Day 1: Arrival in Bovec/Cezsoca
on the left bank of one of world's most beautiful canoeing rivers.
In the afternoon you will get to know the area and choose the right
boat for you - a kayak, canoe or inflatable raft.
Day 2: A trip down the easy flowing section of the Soca
river from Kobarid to Tolmin, with stops for a picnic and swimming.
Here you will learn the basic kayak and canoe skills and strokes,
enjoy the sun, swim in the clear water, and hike in Tolminska Korita
gorge.
Day 3: Rafting down Soca (if the water level is high enough):
the easier part first, then - after picnic - the wildest part, a
natural rafting slalom between the rocks on the site of World Whitewater
Championship events.
Day 4: Rest day - to be spent hiking in the surrounding
hills or bicycling to the unique valley of Trenta.
Day 5: Another canoeing day on the Soca, this time with
easy rapids and instruction on canoeing and whitewater techniques.
Day 6: Explore the upper Soca river - hiking, canoeing
and swimming in narrow canyons and easy rapids.
Day 7: Descent down the small but wonderful Koritnica river:
you will need all the skills that you have learned in the past few
days to enjoy these little known canyons and rapids.
Day 8: Departure. |
