Rafting - Strbecki waterfall, Una river.

Una canoeing. |
Centuries of Ottoman empire ruling shows
on almost every step, but being so close to central Europe has had
a strong influence, too. That combination makes this culture very
interesting to experience. Croatia and Bosnia share one of Europes
magnificent rivers Una. Its source is in Croatia but after
a confluence with its younger (and wilder) brother Unac the right
bank is Bosnian. Then it turns deeper into Bosnia and after a while
returns to be a border again. Old kayakers joke says that you must
hold your passport in your teeth while paddling.
The fascinating part of this river starts in its canyon after a
20-meter waterfall. Waterfalls and most of the rapids are created
by travertine rocks and these rocks also create a thrilling labyrinth
of green river islands in a section below Bihac. There are few towns
in the world like Bihac that are blessed with a river like Una.
No wonder kayaks have a long tradition here.
If you are visiting Croatia to enjoy its wild rivers, make sure
you plan a day for rafting or canoeing on Una. The best spots are
not easy to find but we shall be happy guide you. The more people
we bring to the river, the sooner will the authorities realize that
the planned dam construction would be a crime.
